Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Jake Davis and I make music.

When did you start playing music?

At 5 years old I started playing. By the time I was 15, I started writing.

What do you love about songwriting?

It's unmasterable.  You can write the best song you've ever written and the next day try to write something and it's garbage.  It's horribly frustrating, but that's what makes it exciting.

What instrument do you love to play the most?

The drums.  It's incomparable how fun it is to smash stuff in time to a song.

I probably feel most in-the-zone on the piano, even though I'm not as competent at it as guitar.  It's just the most surreal sounding instrument.

Do you have any fun road stories?

I've only been on the road once.  I mostly play in my home city Los Angeles.  But here's a good story: https://digitaltourbus.com/features/jake-davis-crazy-tour-stories/

Who has inspired you musically?

Lots of people.  Bon Iver, Bruno Mars, The Beatles, John Mayer, Theo Katzman, Kanye West, Melody Gardot, Ed Sheeran, Afroman, Blink 182, Green Day, Bright Eyes, Young the Giant, Under the Influence of Giants, The Vaccines, Diego Clare, Jacob Collier, Elliot Smith, Eric Whitacre, Neon Trees, My Morning Jacket, My Chemical Romance, Michael Jackson, Mac DeMarco, HAIM, Hozier, James Bay, LMFAO, Four Seasons, Frank Sinatra, Slipknot, MGMT, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Foo Fighters, Sum 41, The Strokes, Sigur Ros, Chopin, RX Bandits, Queen, Big L, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Justin Timberlake, Vulfpeck, Lana Del Rey, Tycho, Explosions in the Sky, Birdy, Twenty One Pilots, Max Martin, Avenged Sevenfold, Guns N Roses, the 1975, The Dead Weather, the Weeknd, James Brown, Elvis, Robert Johnson, Drake, Skrillex, Noisia, Vampire Weekend, etc...

What's next for you?

Global domination.

Fun questions

If you were stranded on an island what 5 things would you have with you?

Drumset, computer, midi keyboard, guitar, and of course an infinite supply of generators ;)

If you could perform on any stage where would you want to play?

Coachella mainstage.  I've just grown up around it.

If you could go back in time where would you go?

1990.  Music was a possible career then.  CD's were selling.

If you could have a jam session with any musician ever who would it be?

Steve Jordan
