Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Gon. I'm a 26-year-old musician. I live in Harlem, Manhattan, with my boyfriend Miguel who's a ballet dancer and tours around the world (which leaves me enough along time to write my music!).

I make music. My way. It's sort of pop music but very much influenced by classical music. I moved to the US about six years ago to study opera singing. Somewhere along the way, my love towards opera faded, I guess, and I started developing my own style.

What do you love about your new work?

I love that for the first time I now have a way to communicate my inner voice with the world. For many years I wanted to share the harmonies and musical expressiveness that I had in my head with people and couldn't really do that.  Now, that my debut album Diagonal Fields is out, it's easier to explain what music sounds like in my head.

I loved working with such amazing musicians who quickly became very close friends of mine. Knowing that I was brave enough to be so vulnerable through my music and address such complicated topics through text and music.

What are some of your influences?

Tons of classical composers mostly.

What is your best performance story?

I got on stage. The green room was very very cold, the stage was very warm. The temperature difference made my nose bleed A LOT.  We had to stop the show for 20 minutes. Not a very pleasant experience but a very funny memory.

Where is one place you'd love to perform at?

Carnegie Hall

What's next for you?

Hot chocolate and popcorn.

And another album.

And a tour.

(And Carnegie hall)

But mostly hot chocolate and popcorn.
