Who are you and what do you do?

I'm Natie, violinist, vocalist and composer.

Let's talk about your first record. What was the process like of finally putting your ideas to life?

My very very first record was Identity which I put out last year. It's a solo violin piece with different references to my roots which was very meaningful for me at the time. Now with this debut EP, I'm excited to share more of who I've become (vs. where I come from).

Playing the violin is unique and you use it beautifully in your music. How long have you been playing?

Thank you! It's not an easy instrument for sure, but I've been playing since I was 6 years old, so really by now, I've spent more time playing violin than not, which is crazy to think about.

What has your experience been working with some of the biggest names in the R&B world such as Beyonce and Jay-Z?

It's been intense. One year on the road with them and I felt like I grew as a musician and a person so much faster and in deeper ways than any other years. There wasn't much time to reflect when I was in it, the focus was on showing up ready and giving my best, but afterwards, I got to really embraced the lessons I learnt and transfer the inspiration and energy they gave me into my own work.

Do you have any road stories of performing your music?

Not yet, unfortunately! My first tour under my name was going to be this month for my EP release but obviously, everything is suspended for now...

What's next for you?

Very good question, which to be honest feels a little abstract to answer in these weird times... but I'd say more creating for sure, and I hope more cross over between music, social work, and activism. I truly value the potential for Art to elevate society and bring together communities so I want to be involved in more project that do focus on positive impact.

Who are your greatest inspirations or influences?

It varies... There's just so many inspiring musicians/artists/teachers/entrepreneurs out there, and so much I still don't know. about So today I'll say: Jill Scott because her presence on stage is one of a Goddess ; Questlove because he's sust a Renaissance man and successful entrepreneur ; and the Dalai Lama because every single of his quote is food for thought in my daily life.

Fun questions

  • If you were stranded on an abandoned island what five items would you definitely want with you?

My iPod fully loaded, a slack line because I could have fun for hours every day on it, obviously my violin and my mpc, and a poetry book to nourish my brain and imagination.

What stage have you always wanted to play your music in?

My dream gig would be something similar as what FKJ did at le musée de la Fée in Paris: Visual art, intimate audience, close to each other, and live music with the live looping aspect to the forefront.
